All-Time Fingers Team

The 9th Regular Season in Fingers League has come to a close. Below is a list of the best players, position-by-position, in the league's history. A couple of positions were toss-ups, but there were quite a few players that were locks at their respective positions.

Catcher - Quilvio Pena - Pena was the backbone of three championships for the Beetle franchise. He started 1075 games at catcher and made only six errors. A .321 career hitter, Pena has made 4 NL All-Star teams and has won 4 NL Silver Slugger Awards. In 66 postseason games, he hit .325.

1st Base - Davey Nieves - The 30-year old Nieves is the all-time 'hit king' of Fingers. His 201 hits in season nine upped his career total to 1662. It was the fifth time he had over 200 hits. He also helped Oklahoma City win a World Series in season four, and is a .327 career postseasn hitter.

2nd Base - Bonk Blake - Blake, like Pena, won three titles with the Beetles. He is probably the best all-around hitter in league history. .324 career hitter, 335 HRs, 1130 RBIs, and 1085 runs. Bonk has also been clutch in the playoffs; .320, 105 hits, 18 HRs, 64 RBIs in 95 career playoff games. In addition, he's won 2 NL MVP Awards, 5 Silver Slugger Awards and been named to 7 all-star teams.

Shortstop - Carlos Sanchez - Sanchez, 28, is the youngest on the list. But in 6+ seasons, he has crushed NL pitching. He already has 306 HRs and 787 RBIs. This past season he knocked 62 balls out of the yard and drove in 159.

3rd Base - Danny Clark - This former cricket and current Gashouse Gang member has quietly compiled strong numbers. He has over 1600 hits and will hit his 200th HR next season. Clark has had over 150 hits in all 9 seasons, and has hit 20 or more HRs in 7 seasons.

Left Field - Pedro Alvarez - Pedro, without a doubt, is the 'Babe Ruth' of Fingers. He's the first player to reach 500 HRs, and finished season nine with 527. Alvarez won three titles with New York and has 25 career post season HRs. He also has 4 MVP Awards, 2 in each league.

Center Field - Nolan Wall - Wall is an eight-time all-star, who just rakes. He won three championships with the Beetles before moving on to Boston. He's two HRs shy of 400 for his career. And has also driven in 1200 runs, more than anyone with the exception of Pedro Alvarez. One of the rare players to play playoff baseball all nine years.

Right Field - Doug Harding - Former Blackhawk, Capitol and Brawler, hit .309 with 319 HRs in 8 seasons. Won the AL MVP Award in season three.

Starting Pitcher - Frank Chong - Chong was the first $20 million/year player in league history. Winner of 154 games, including 9 straight years of 15+ wins. Three-time NL Cy Young Award winner. Career Leader in IP, Wins, Quality Starts, Strikeouts, Complete Games and Shutouts.

Relief Pitcher - James Yamaguchi - Both David Walsh and Tino Kimura have more saves, but Yamaguchi is only 30 years old, and should end his career as the leader. He has 247 career saves, including 12 more in the postseason. Only player to win the Fireman of the Year Award in both the AL and NL.
